Usage Antineoplastic; non-selective steroidal aromatase inhibitor that prevents the conversion from androgen to estrogen. Used in in the treatment of familial male precocious puberty. An effective anti-tumor agent.
Testolactone is a synthetic antineoplastic agent that is structurally distinct from the androgen steroid nucleus in possessing a six-membered lactone ring in place of the usual five-membered carbocyclic D-ring. Despite some similarity to testosterone, testolactone has no in vivo androgenic effect.
Testolactone (Teslac) Description:
Testolactone ( Teslac ) is a non-selective, irreversible, steroidal aromatase inhibitor used as an antineoplastic drug to treat advanced-stage breast cancer. Testolactone was discontinued in 2008 and is no longer available for medical use.
Testolactone (Teslac) Applications:
Testolactone is classified as an antineoplastic agent, which means that Testolactone stops or slows the growth of malignant cells. One advantage of testolactone is that, although it is related to testosterone, it does not cause women to develop male characteristics such as a deep voice or facial hair.
Testolactone (Teslac) Usage:
Testolactone is mainly used for treating various types of breast cancer in women who have been through menopause or whose ovaries no longer function.
Testolactone works by blocking the production of estrogen, which helps prevent the growth of breast cancers that are activated by estrogen.
Testolactone may also prevent tumor cells from being activated by other hormones.
Testolactone also has been used to postpone precocious puberty because of its ability to block estrogen production.
