Yohimbe powder is the name of an evergreen tree found in parts of central and western Africa. The bark of yohimbe powder contains a chemical called yohimbine, which is used to make medicine. Yohimbine hydrochloride (Aphrodyne, Yocon) is a form of yohimbine powder that is a prescription drug in the US.

Yohimbe powder supplements often list yohimbe bark extract or yohimbine powder as the active ingredient. However, some of these products might not provide accurate information about the amount of yohimbine powder in the supplement. Also, some yohimbe supplements list yohimbine hydrochloride as an active ingredient. Yohimbine powder products containing man-made yohimbine hydrochloride as an ingredient are not legal to sell as a dietary supplement in the US.

Yohimbe powder is taken by mouth arouse sexual excitement, for erectile dysfunction (ED), sexual problems caused by medications for depression called selective-serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), and general sexual problems in both men and women. It is also used for athletic performance, weight loss, exhaustion, chest pain, high blood pressure, low blood pressure that occurs when standing up, diabetic nerve pain, and for depression along with certain other medications.

In another study, twenty obese women underwent a three-week clinical trial to test the effects of Yohimbine on weight. They all ate a low-energy diet (1000 kcal/day) for the period of the trial. Half the women were given a placebo and the other half were given Yohimbine HCl four times per day. The Yohimbine group had a significantly better weight reduction at the end of the trial. Yohimbine also seemed to promote a healthy sympathetic system. Again, none of the women reported any side effects during the trial.

A review from 2001 looked into all the research on Yohimbine up to that time. The researchers found that there had still been relatively few well-designed studies to test Yohimbine’s effects. In all the studies, Yohimbine was relatively free from side effects at normal dosages.

Furthermore, a study looked into the effects of startling and fear on human emotions and fear-related memory. The researchers found that Yohimbine HCl stimulated people’s bodies to produce epinephrine and norepinephrine. They also found that Yohimbine improved the recovery time from symptoms of fear.

 

How to Take Yohimbine powder?

 

Recommended dosage, active amounts, other details

Dosages of 0.2mg/kg bodyweight have been successfully used to increase fat burning without significant implications on cardiovascular parameters like heart rate and blood pressure. This results in a dosage of:

14 mg for a 150lb person

18 mg for a 200lb person

22 mg for a 250lb person

Supplementation is most effective between meals or during short term fasting.

Caution should be exercised at higher body weight, since the cardiovascular system may not be prepared to handle a stimulatory agent such as yohimbine powder. When supplementing yohimbine powder for the first time, always start with a half-dose and assess tolerance before proceeding.
